Higher Education in America
An American education is known throughout the world for its excellence,
flexibility and for the range of opportunities it affords. A degree
from one of Study Group’s carefully selected partner institutions
will give you the qualification you need to be internationally successful.
Undergraduate Studies at University
Bachelor of Arts (BA) or Science (BS) degrees are granted after
4 years of successful study
In your first year, as a Freshman, the focus is on introductory courses
giving a solid grounding in a wide range of subjects. There is usually
a compulsory core curriculum which may include mathematics, science,
English, history, logic and philosophy, but which also allows you
to choose electives in subjects that interest you. This is also your
chance to take introductory courses in what you hope will become your
main discipline of study (known as your major). For example, you might
take Economics as a Freshman if you wish to study a Business major.
In your second year or Sophomore year, you will complete the core
curriculum and advance in some subjects to the next tier. Those students
who have decided on a major may begin taking prerequisite classes
at this time. However, you are not required to form ally declare a
major until your junior year.
In the third year, as a Junior, you will begin the advanced coursework
for your major and in your fourth year which is your Senior year,
you will take your last exams and complete your Bachelor's degree.
Community Colleges in America
These are two-year colleges offering a wide range of undergraduate
classes that can lead to an Associate’s degree. As well as traditional
core disciplines such as mathematics, business, science and history,
they also offer excellent vocational training in areas such as tourism,
accounting, electronics, graphic design, hospital administration,
and hospitality management. The curriculum is very flexible and it
is possible to complete one year of study or less and gain valuable
college credits. Alternatively, you can also progress from community
college to university, where you complete your final two years to
achieve the more advanced Bachelor's Degree.
Although the academic requirements are not as stringent and class
sizes are typically much larger, the quality of teaching is still
very good and courses are very reasonably priced.
